I recently came across this TedX video from coach Alvaro Gonzalez Alorda founder of Emergap (in Spanish) about leadership and transformation; about how leaders make their people grow.

It really impressed me so I’ve decided to publish my takeaway notes out of it.

What leaders do: Help others grow. Indeed transform.

What positive transformation is: improve on one’s habits and values.

Persuation: Great power that can be used to help others.

Path to transformation through inspiration: touch minds, hearts and then hands (actions). Without actions there is no transformation.

Inspiration: It’s not producing feelings on others, but motivating them to improve habits and values. It is based on leaders values and integrity.

Integrity: Match between what you believe (values) and what you do (actions). Say what you think, do what you say.

Integrity cracks: We all have mismatches between our values and our actions, which diminish our integrity and thus our ability to inspire others and produce positive transformations. Integrity cracks limit our ability to encourage others and hold them accountable for their progress as we already failed on ours.

Fixing integrity cracks: genuine effort to become a better person by closing the gap between our actions and our values. It requires humbleness, to ask for forgiveness of self mistakes and to adopt concrete commitments and achieve them.

A person with strong integrity can see others with a loving look, full of hope for their potential.

Transformation doesn’t occur by watching a motivational video, or taking an online class. Transformation occurs through the daily practice that develops character.

What’s leadership?

“so you’re here because you want to transform your people. Do you know them? and do you love them?” – Mother Theresa
